Honda BRV launched in Mumbai
Honda Cars India Ltd has made their entry in the most popular car segment in India, the compact SUV segment with the new Honda BRV. Available in both Diesel and Petrol option, the BRV (Bold Runabout Vehicle) is Honda’s bet to appeal the consumers and accelerate their growth in the country.
Honda launched the BRV here in Mumbai at a press event at the Taj Lands End, Bandra. Mr Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd were present at the event and said “India is a key market and we are focusing on increasing our customer base with new model introductions. The launch of BRV marks Honda’s entry in the compact SUV segment.”
The good parts about this Honda are its stance, exterior styling, powerful performance, best in class ground clearance of 210mm, excellent mileage and – a 3-row configuration that is actually practical. The car is 4456 mm long, 1735 mm wide and 1666 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2662 mm – which means a very spacious cabin.
Engine
The BRV in its petrol variant is powered by Honda’s 1.5 Litre i-VTEC engine mated to the new 6-speed manual transmission exclusively developed for this vehicle. The petrol variant also gets the first-in-class Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with sports car-inspired Paddle shifts located just behind the steering wheel as an option. This engine delivers a maximum power of 119PS @ 6,600 rpm and maximum torque of 145Nm @ 4,600 rpm and a mileage of 15.4 kmpl in the MT version and 16 kmpl in the CVT version. The diesel variant is powered by the 1.5 Litre, i-DTEC engine with Earth Dreams Technology, mated to the new 6-speed manual transmission. It produces a maximum power of 100PS @ 3,600 rpm and maximum torque of 200Nm @ 1,750 rpm and a mileage of 21.9 kmpl.
Exterior
The exterior design reflects toughness and inspires trust on the vehicle. It gets the character of a premium SUV – a wide body & stance, highlighted with Projector Headlamps, wide appearance front grill design and LED position lamps. The silver finish front and rear bumper garnishes and the roof rails add to the sportiness of the BRV. A first and unique connected tail light design with LED light guide enhance the exterior appeal of the car. Last but not the least, the all-new 16-inch aluminium wheels increase the ruggedness of the BRV.
Interior
The second row of the BRV features a 60:40 split with slide and recline options. The third row has a 50:50 split design which we can fold flat and increase the boot space from a generous 223 Litres to 691 Litres. Interiors are done in a sporty all black theme, has a very pleasing dashboard design and high quality material all over the interior. This premium looking interior is further enhanced with optional silver accents, cool mesh design and piano black finish on the instrument panel. The white lit 3D speedometer with multi information display adds to the sportiness of the vehicle. On the higher variants, you also get the options for leather finish interior, multi-layered fabric seats, push Start/Stop button with smart entry key, integrated Bluetooth Audio System with Hands Free Telephone and Steering mounted controls for Audio, power foldable ORVMs.
Entry and exit for the third row is convenient due to the one-touch tumble second row seat. The BRV also has addjustable Headrests on all the three rows. The second row gets roof mounted AC vents keeping them cool too.
Chassis & Safety
The new chassis realizes both superior ride comfort and smooth & agile handling. The BRV’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body enhances self-protection while mitigating damage to other vehicles in case of a collision. For better crash performance and comfortable ride the BRV’s body rigidity and the damper have been developed specially. The car features McPherson Strut suspensions in the front and Torsion beam rear suspension, which improve the car’s stability and ride comfort.
The BRV comes loaded with active and passive safety technologies including Dual SRS Air Bags as standard offering across all its variants, Anti-Lock Breaking System (ABS), Electronic Break Distribution (EBD) which enhances the breaking performance. The ABS with EBD is standard across all diesel variants.
Warranty & Availability
The BRV comes with a 3-years Unlimited Kilometers warranty as standard with another 2 years of optional extended warranty for all customers. The BRV is available in petrol in 5 variants – E, S, V and VX with manual transmissions and V with CVT; the diesel in 4 variants – E, S, V & VX with maunal transmissions. The following colors are available on the BRV: Carnelian Red Pearl, White Orchid Pearl, Alabaster Silver Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic, Urban Titanium Metallic and Taffeta White.
