Honda WR-V launched in Mumbai

Honda WRV launched in Mumbai

We were waiting for Honda’s offering in the sub 4-meter compact SUV segment for long time now. And here is the Honda WRV. It is quite frankly late to the party, but the amount of efforts that Honda R&D India have put in along with Honda R&D Japan is commendable. For starters, they have given the WRV its own unique look. The front and the rear of the WRV have been given a differentiable character. The buffed up look is definitely not ugly, in fact it feels like a refreshed design style compared to that of the Vitara Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The design of the WRV keeps growing on you, the more you look at it.

The late entry is also justified by the fact that Honda didn’t want to just add some plastic cladding to the Jazz and sell it like a compact SUV, which is the feeling one gets from the Hyundai i20 Active, the Volkswagen Cross Polo, and the Toyota Etios Cross – all of which look almost like the car they are based on.

The WRV has been extensively worked upon. It has larger dimensions, a slightly larger boot, and a tad better ground clearance compared to the Jazz. See the table below:

  Honda Jazz Honda WR-V
Length 3955 mm 3999 mm (+ 44 mm)
Width 1694 mm 1734 mm (+ 40 mm)
Height 1544 mm 1601 mm (+ 57 mm)
Wheelbase 2530 mm 2555 mm (+ 25 mm)
Ground Clearance 165 mm 188 mm (+ 23 mm)
Boot Space 354 L 363 L (+ 9 L)

The WRV’s suspension is not the same as the one in Jazz, and is designed give greater roll stability and improved rigidity for better handling performance. It has the Mac-Pherson strut front suspension and the Twisted torsion beam rear suspension.

It shares its engine with the Jazz – the 1.2L Petrol and 1.5L Diesel, but they have been tuned to work the best with the extra 50 kg that the Jazz gained to become the WRV. The petrol engine comes with a 5-speed Manual Transmission and the Diesel engine comes with a 6-speed Manual Transmission. There are no automatic variants available and Honda does not plan to offer them any time soon. The numbers are as follows:

1.2 litre i-VTEC Petrol
1.5 litre i-DTEC Diesel
Max Power
90 PS @ 6000 RPM 100 PS @ 3600 RPM
Peak Torque
110 Nm @ 4800 RMP 200 Nm @ 1750 RPM
Transmission 5-speed manual 6-speed manual
Mileage (ARAI)
17.5 KMPL 25.5 KMPL

It will be an easier choice to make here since there are only two variants  (S and VX) in both the Petrol and Diesel offerings to choose from.

Hello October

Hello October! January! March!*

The Best CAR Blog Ever completed 4 awesome years in October 2016. And I have to admit, it has been a wonderful journey so far for me. I have even ventured successfully on to writing more about other topics than Cars – something that I had not thought of doing before. Here’s my other blog if you’re curious.

A lot happened in 2016

At the starting of that year I made promises I couldn’t fulfill and failed at – writing more often,  posting more often on my social channels, Auto Expo 2016 coverage, etc. The only reason for this is my old way of managing my time.

I’ve definitely written thousands of to-do lists on several pages/notes and tried out tens of different apps! But none of them have led me to deliver what I wanted to. Most of my time went in managing my studies, college project and then my startup related work.

Now everything has ended – and new things have begun. I completed my studies in June 2016 & then went on to do an internship for two months with a startup. Then I got a full-time job as a Front End Developer at the same place for multiple good reasons. The biggest being the awesome people I had to work with.

I also bought a monkey bike (Honda Navi) in June and started a group of Honda Navi Owners from Mumbai to go on rides with them! 😁 Fun facts aside I’ve also been gaining some extra weight that I shouldn’t.

A lot has happened in 2017

I attended the Autocar Performance Show 2017 in January; I also covered the launch and experience events for the Tata Hexa – on Instagram** at least. I couldn’t get time to write about them. They are in my drafts. I’ll get them out of the drafts just like this post* soon!

There was also a Volkswagen GTI Experience event that I went to and I also attended the Vintage Car Fiesta 2017 organized by the Vintage & Classic Cars Club of India.

Welcome to March everyone!

Two months of 2017 already flew away, 10 more to go! I hope to make the most of them! I read an article that said

“Scheduling is more effective than just making a to-do list”

It might be the way to go with my blogs and all other activities. Less Talking More Doing!!

* Yeah this post was lying around as a draft since October 2016! I tried to finish it and publish it in January also. But it’s finally here!
** Are you following me on Instagram? If not, then please do! I am quite active there. @thebestcarblogever !!

Volkswagen GTI (2017) Experience in Mumbai

Volkswagen GTI 2017 Experience in Mumbai

GTI – Grand Turismo Injection – it is an identity. An identity for Wolfsburg born motoring legend. The Volkswagen GTI stands for a sporting character, a powerful engine and maximum performance. Every car-maker has a performance wing, and this is Volkwagen’s performance baby finally making it to India. The Volkwagen GTI is here for the enthusiasts. It looks like another hatchback to those who are unaware of how GTI bagde changes the numbers for this particular car. This two-door ‘Creature of the Night’ GTI comes with a 1.8L TSI, 4-cylinder in-line engine, 1798cc of displacement generating 192PS of power and 250Nm of torque!

Check out the video below for a look at the interior of this crazy hot hatch!

Please like the video, leave your comments and do subscribe. This can help me know that I should make more videos related to cars! (Maybe motovlogging/ autovlogging in the future!) Irrespective of that, there is another video due – it covers the Volkswagen GTI doing some things you could only imagine! This is what is was meant to do – what else would you do with a hatch that can go 233kmph!! 😛 😀 Hahahaha! Check out more details about the Volkswagen GTI here: http://www.volkswagen.co.in/en/models/volkswagen-gti/gallery.html

A big thanks to Shaman Group – Volkswagen Downtown Mumbai for organizing this amazing track & my brother Nirav M Minawaala (Automotive Lifestyles) for the invite and company at this thrilling afternoon!!

Tata Hexa Experience in Mumbai

Tata Hexa Experience Centre at Mumbai

The Best CAR Blog Ever was invited to experience the all new Tata Hexa by Tata Motors in Mumbai on and off-road – firsthand.

The Hexa Experience Centre was organized at the MMRDA Grounds, Bandra on January 13-14-15,  2017. Designed to make it possible for existing and potential customers to come and experience the Tata Hexa themselves,  the setup had a challenging off-road course, a customer lounge and a dining area. Along with it there were multiple experience stalls from other Tata brands like Titan,  Croma, Tata beverages to name a few.

Check out some of my Instagram posts from that day below:

The Hexa Experience Centre also had a kids zone, a pet adoption zone in association with World4All and other engaging activities. Tata Hexa Experience Centres have been organized previously at Gurugram, Bangalore and Chennai, the fourth leg at Mumbai, and the fifth one was organized in Hyderabad.

Overall, after experiencing the Tata Hexa for myself, I can vouch for it to be a really good choice if you are planning to get an SUV any time soon.

Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and Facebook as those are the places to catch updates first! 🙂

Celebrating 100 years of BMW at Bavaria Motors, Pune

My Sunday mornings are lazy. I’m usually asleep till 9am. But April 17th was a bit different. I was up already at 3:30am and getting ready to leave for Pune, Maharashtra. I had a train to catch at around 5.30am. Why? All for the love of Cars! I was invited to attend a BMW Passion Trails event organized by the really cool people at Bavaria Motors at their newly opened Hadapsar facility.

I reached Pune around 9:30am and was on my way to Bavaria Motors Showroom, Camp, Pune. The showroom filled with lots of Bimmers was a very welcoming place! Front and center was the new BMW 7-series! I had been at its launch at the Auto Expo 2016.

After a short tour around the showroom with my camera and a good cup of coffee, I was on my way to Hadapsar which is home to the huge Bavaria Motors Workshop – in a BMW GT! I was feeling so happy in the GT that I forgot to take any pictures of it or with it! 🙁  It’s such a smooth and comfortable car! Believe me – rides well, powerful yet easy to handle, spacious – just perfect. Period. I’ve got some pictures of it!

And in a while, I reached Hadapsar and it was time to spend time with our passions. BMW owners, people passionate about BMWs, and their families were invited take part in the day long event and explore their passions. It was also the first time the all new BMW X1 was showcased in Pune! Also on showcase were some M Performance Accessories and Kits for the BMW 3-series, 5-series and the X5.

First off was the Painting Workshop!

Everyone got a chance to become a kid again, get dirty with colors and paint something out of their creativity. Led by Deb from Group Art Circle, everyone got a chance to paint a masterpiece in their own ways. It was a nice experience for me to get along with some paint – I’ve never been personally as friendly/good with paint as I have been with pencil! And here’s what I was able to make! 😀

Next up was the Photography workshop!

This one was really very interesting. It was more of a Q & A session with the Photography Guru Angad Joshi. While we weren’t left with time to actually go and capture some BMWs we did clear out a lot of myths and misconceptions about the Cameras. Lots of information on the basic science of how the camera functions, what happens when you click that button!

Last was the Drum Circle session!

It was the most tiring (my hands were paining!) yet happening session of all, because everyone got to play drums – West African Djembes more specifically! And did we create some really cool music that evening! All the drumming, jugalbandi was just really cool. Hats off to the organizers TaalInc!

Apart from the event I had the chance to take an unguided tour of the Workshop facility and look what all did I spot!

A very wonderful day indeed – spent with some passion exploration! Wishing BMW the best next 100 years! The BMW Vision was unveiled as a part of the #Next100 celebrations in order to showcase the ideas and thoughts of BMW on how the automotive landscape will evolve and a glimpse of what we will see in the next 100 years!

Detroit Auto Show – Part 2

I wrote about the best cars which are in production or are production-ready from the Detroit Auto Show in my last post (check it out in case you missed it!). Now we’ll look as some of the best Concept cars from the Show!

1. Subaru Impreza Sedan concept

After being showcased previously at the Tokyo Motor Show and the Los Angeles Auto Show, the Subaru Impreza Sedan concept was shown at the Detroit Auto Show. The concept will hopefully look as appealing when its production ready. What will go under the hood hasn’t been revealed yet. It puts the “wide and Low” design philosophy to display. The concept’s roof line is sloping, and the corners and character lines are more contoured. Its got some great looking hawk-eye headlights, a larger and more elegantly designed grille-mounted emblem and black-and-red fan-blade wheels. See the pics!

2. Nissan Titan Warrior concept

When Nissan unveiled the Nissan Titan at the Detroit Auto Show last year, on the first look everyone could notice the similarity to the Ford F-150. And why not? The Ford F-150 has been the class leader for a really long time. And anybody trying to get into this market would be definitely referencing it first for design cues that have been a success. This year’s Nissan Titan Warrior Concept too faces a similar case. It looks really similar to the Ford F-150 Raptor. For images of the Raptor look at my previous post.

3. Acura Precision concept

The Acura Precision concept was built specifically with the aim to be showcased at the Detroit Auto Show 2016. After the NSX, the Acura design team has been playing around with more specific styling as the Precision concept’s end goal is to define the news styling that will be adopted by all the Acura models soon. It is larger than the NSX in may ways – wider than the NSX by almost eight inches, height four inches more than the NSX. Its got deeply cut sides, debuts the brand’s aggressive “Diamond Pentagon” front grille which is a definite relief from the Acura grille we’ve seen for quite some time. The grille perfectly compliments the “Jewel Constellation” LED headlamps. I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking.

One more point to note after looking that the futuristic interior on the Precision concept – Acura believes that the future human-machine interface (HMI) will have the ability to scan each occupant in the car to load their personalized settings for music, maps and vehicle performance.

4. Buick Avista concept

There’s not a single thing in this Buick that doesn’t look awesome on its own. The Avista might not be currently confirmed to go in to production but it will definitely be the cue to the design of all future Buick cars. It’s got powerful grille, wing-shaped head- and taillights, lean and muscular character line. The wait for the new Buick cars won’t be long, as the next-generation Regal mid-size sedan is due within the year, and a new Enclave crossover won’t be far behind.

Bonus!

Here are some other cars that grabbed my attention and should appeal to you too!

They launched the Force 1 with the aim of taking on big names like Ferrari, Maserati and Aston Martin. It is equipped with a roaring 745 horsepower, V10 engine.
