The #Experience before the #HangoutWithHonda
Fri, Nov 8, 2013, 21:15
I was going through the usual round of checking my mail, that’s when I saw a mail that I should have had expected earlier in the day. I had completely forgotten that I had given out my email id the previous night to a person who contacted me through my blog’s Facebook page for some auto event.
I had received an invite for an experiential drive with Honda! So I was reading it and checked for further details. When was it going to happen? Nov 9. Where was it going to happen? Drive from Navi Mumbai to Lo.. Wait A Minute!! Nov 9! The day was to start in another three hours! (I say so because no time was mentioned in the Invitation)
I went to dad with my laptop, asked him to stop all his work and just listen to me! I showed him the invite and said that I wanted to go. He said no because I was gonna be on my own with unknown people, that too far away from home.. “You don’t even know whether they are real or fake!”.
Before I could speak up, I got my answer. And the real reason, I had college to attend for some placement training also the next day.
I calmed a bit, thought about the whole situation, weighed in all the profits & loss I would make depending on the decision I would take.
I had to deal with this situation now! I asked my dad if I could at least call up the person who mailed me the invite and get a few more details, what’s going to happen, what would I have to do, etc.
I got all the details & then had a 15-min long discussion with mom & dad, since this was the first time I got an invite to some event like this (because you guys read my blog so lovingly! Thank you friends! 🙂 ) and I was gonna be on my own for the next day, IF they said yes.
Everything went well, I finally got the approval! 🙂 I was super-excited now! So I called back and confirmed that I would join them. So did a quick review of what I would carry along tomorrow & then packed my bag. I went to bed early too (I don’t usually! 😀 )
The #HangoutWithHonda Experience
Sat Nov 9, 2013, 06:00 :
I was up early today and was waiting for my pickup car to come & take me to Hallmark Honda, Navi Mumbai, from where the journey would start.
I got picked up at around 06:30 & reached the assembly area around 07:30.
All the CARS were getting ready for the drive. The CARS were being numbered, stuffed with some food for the journey, some goodies, the itenary, first aid kit, map to the destination.
It was scheduled to start at 08:00 hrs, but we finally got allotted our cars & started our journey by 09:00 hrs. And so we began our journey towards Aamby Valley City, Lonavala (our destination) in our cute-blue Honda Amaze (diesel)!
We were briefed regarding the competition among the 11 Honda CARS (7 Amaze & 4 Brio), where the four teams with the best mileage from the four categories Amaze Petrol, Amaze Diesel, Brio MT & Brio AT, would win! 🙂
(click on the above & below images to enlarge)
Before reaching Aamby Valley, we took various halts, and one at the Tiger Hills point
Here are the journey pics:
We then continued our journey & reached our destination around 12:30 hrs.
We were joined here by the officials from Honda, who then did a presentation on Honda, what they do, the Amaze, the Brio, the diesel engine, etc. Here’s the video that we got to see over there. Do watch it!!
We broke out for lunch and then it was followed up with a bunch of games with the Honda CARS! Yep, two different games, one where we had to make an ‘8’ with the Brio followed by a reverse park to complete the track. Winners were decided based on the time taken to complete it.
The other game was kind of similar, we had to create an 8 again with the Amaze and do a straight reverse back to the starting line to finish the track. And here’s the twist, the Amaze would have a bucket securely taped in place, filled with water, on top of it. Winners were decided based on the least amount of water spilled, followed by the least amount of time taken.
We didn’t win either of the two games… But we did win the best mileage competition in the Amaze Diesel category! 😉 It was a truly Amaze-ing experience!! Thank You Honda!! 🙂
Lately, I haven’t been able to get a few posts up on the blog on time… So here’s a public to-do list for me to follow and you to look out for…! I hope this will push me towards meeting my deadlines and keep you looking out for the following posts! 😉 🙂
Here are the posts that I shall get done with by the next week:
1. My #HangoutWithHonda Experience (Update to article: #HangoutWithHonda Sneak Peek)

P.S. I also shall try to add a new sketch to the Sketches Page! 😉
On November 6, I got a chance to visit two CAR garages here in Mumbai with my dad. Both belonged to his old-time friends who have been in this work for close to 45 years. The experience was a whole lot overwhelming and exciting than I could have ever thought.
The first garage is ‘Ashok Auto’ located in Lower Parel, Mumbai. When I entered I had a silver Honda Accord (8th Gen) in front of me and on the left of it lie a Toyota Crown. I could see some one hiding in one corner in Red…and White. It was a Ford Mustang II in red with white rally stripes. I was so awed by its beauty, I spent atleast another half-an-hour going in circles around it, inspecting closely every inch of the beauty. All the original badges were intact, on the whole the car was in a pretty good condition (except it had a list of 20-odd things to be worked on). I got my hands a bit dirty around the Mustang II and even got its hood opened so that I could have a look inside the heart of the CAR. All original inside, except for the battery though, still ready to breathe again. I couldn’t get it fired up though, because it was being worked upon. But then, there were some other cars that would require my attention.
On the right of the silver Accord lay three cars: a Mercedes Benz 2000, a Mercedes E320 and a Lincoln. Yes, a Lincoln. It wasn’t just another Lincoln, it was the TOWNCAR. I am not sure whether it original comes in the form of a Limo, but then this one was. Moving forward was a Peugeot 309, whose body was being worked upon; re-fabrication and paint-job. Yes, there were other regular cars such as a Hyundai Accent, Honda Accord (7th Gen) and even a BMW 5-series.
More interesting were the rares ones that were present there. Two of them, to be precise. A Toyota Celica 2.0 GTi, which wasn’t in a good condition though, but well I did keep looking at it again and again… and a Jaguar XJ6.. in a dark green shade with two gold strips going around the perimeter of the car, which was not in a pretty good condition. It was completely different from what a Jaguar sedan looks like nowadays. I could sense the difference, I could understand how far the design of cars have evolved. Didn’t get much time with the others (as I spent most of the time with the Mustang II), and really sorry for not being able to get any photos for them.
I have asked dad to plan another visit again soon. Lets hope it’s here soon! Till then here are some photos that could resemble the ones I got to see…

On the other garage ‘Ashoka Car Care’ also located in Lower Parel, here they carryout work on mostly accident cars with accidental insurance. Still, there was one car to get my attention, a 1969 Volkswagen Beetle. It wasn’t in a good condition, but the garage owner had still bought it, so that he could get a chance in restoring one of his favourite cars. (I know how car lovers can be, obviously! 😉 )

Please share here in the comments with everyone, if there is something interesting you know about these cars. Really want to get to know them… 🙂
I got a mail from Andrew [Alex] who is a member of ‘Teens 4 Safety’ where he with the other members try to spread resources that they think are informative. By doing this, they hope to make connections with other people who can share their years of car knowledge with us.
He came across an awesome link where they explain drinking and driving dangers better than anything I’ve seen so far!
Here is the link : [http://www.sr22insurancequotes.org/dangers-of-drunk-driving/]
and below is a quick grab of the website just so that it interests you to have a look at it! I hope this link is useful! Also don’t forget to spread the word… 🙂
